The Wind Rises

Jirou Horikoshi leaves his hometown to study aeronautical engineering at Tokyo Imperial University with the sole goal of designing and building aircraft like his hero, Italian aircraft pioneer Giovanni Battista Caproni, despite the fact that his nearsightedness precludes him from ever becoming a pilot.

Jirou’s entire being will be put to the test during the years preceding the manufacture of his notorious Mitsubishi A6M Zero fighter aircraft. Even though he is aware of the harsh realities of his personal life and the part his creations play in the war, his numerous travels and life experiences only motivate him to keep going. As time passes, he is forced to face an insurmountable dilemma: how much does he have to sacrifice to pursue his lovely dream?
